Good to Know & Caveats
- Wait in the hotel lobby ten minutes before pickup; drivers wait no longer than an hour.
- Ten hours includes the driving. With five stops on the list, choosing three is the realistic plan.
- The park is reached on foot: 1.6 km each way from the Kanbayashi Onsen trailhead, about 25 to 30 minutes, mostly level but frozen underfoot for much of the winter.
- Park admission is paid at the gate and is not included: ¥800 for adults and ¥400 for children, rising to ¥1,000 and ¥500 on 1 December 2026 (¥880 / ¥440 if you buy an e-ticket online).
- Pickup covers accommodation in all 23 Tokyo wards, but not airports or ports.
- Only your group travels — no other passengers are added.

Had a nice day with Kashi! He took us everywhere we asked, and we made good use of our time. We managed to see Zenkōji Temple, Togakushi Shrine and trail, Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, a brief walk in Shibu Onsen (although basically nothing was open at the time- we weren't looking to bathe but thought we could at least find a restaurant. Nope. Utter ghost town in the afternoon), the Hokusai Museum and Takai Kouzan Memorial Hall in Obuse, and Gansho-in Temple with a bit of time to spare. We started and ended in Nagano, so less time is probably available if you start further out. The snow monkeys were the highlight (they were very active that day)! I wish we knew in advance that the main interior of Zenkōji was not open yet- we were just able to walk the grounds (in the rain) and watch a morning ceremony from the side, but given the number of temples we've seen this trip, that wasn't a major issue. All in all, this was a great way to see the Nagano area.

Activity was very busy. Our driver Cheema was very careful, attentive for us. He recommended to visit Hokusai- famous painter of 18-19 century- museum in Obuse. We visited wonderful most beautiful Zenkoji Temple in Nagano and many more. Cheema was very helpful. Good time!

How many of the five stops can we actually do?
Three is comfortable. The round trip from Tokyo is about seven hours of driving, and Matsumoto Castle in particular is a long way off the Jigokudani line. If the castle matters more than the temple, say so at pickup.
What is at Shibu Onsen?
A hot spring village of wooden inns and nine small public bathhouses, twenty minutes from the monkey park. The listing allows 40 minutes, which is enough for the street and one bath.
Is park entry included?
No — attraction fees are excluded. Jigokudani is ¥800 per adult at the gate, ¥1,000 from 1 December 2026.
